At this time, several skyscrapers were built, including Houston's tallest skyscraper the JP Morgan Chase Tower, officially completed in 1982. The Houston Inner Loop neighborhoods also experienced growth in real estate at this time, with the development of new residential homes and Houston Inner Loop townhomes.

Again in the late 1990s and early 2000s, there was a mini-boom of both mid-rise and high-rise residential tower construction, with several buildings standing over 30 stories tall. High-rise residential living in Houston proved to be a suitable alternative to Houston Inner Loop townhomes.
