Getting Around Houston

Over 575.5 miles make up the freeway system of Houston and its 10-county metro area. Houston Inner Loop neighborhoods reside along Interstate 610, which encircles Downtown, the Medical Center, and other Houston Inner Loop neighborhood with an approximate 10-mile diameter. Beltway 8 and the Sam Houston Tollway form the middle loop at a diameter measuring around 25 miles. Presently, there is a proposed highway project, State Highway 99 (or The Grand Parkway), which would form a third loop outside of Houston.

The city also lies along the route of another proposed highway project, known as the Interstate 69 NAFTA superhighway, which will link Canada, the United States industrial Midwest, Texas, and Mexico.

There are two commercial airports that serve Houston, which include the ninth-busiest airport in the U.S. and seventeenth-busiest airport worldwide (George Bush Intercontinental Airport), and the William P. Hobby Airport. Ellington Field is the area's third-largest airport, but is used by strictly military, commercial, government, and general aviation sectors.
